Not far from the Muslim Cemetery is the Grand Mosque of Niamey located. It is open for visitors all days apart from Fridays. I think no need to say that decent clothes is recommended. Nevertheless, I was surprised that we haven’t had to cover our hair! It is the first mosque that I´ve visited, where no headscarf was needed! There is always somebody around who is ready to be your “guide”. I highly recommend to fix all prices before the tour! There is one box for general contribution for...

Hello from Niamey! Yeees, we are in the capital of Niger. Which is – by the way – also called capital “de chaleur” (of the heat). We are around 40 degrees Celsius plus the hot dry Sahel-wind. But these luxury items are not cheap: For these six items you see on the photo, we paid more than 40 Euro.....Even back in Fada, we celebrated every slice of cheese, we danced around our fridge and we are still doing delicious pasta-sauce with the...

Since our project has an office in Niamey and because three (!) new colleagues started their work, we are invited for a one-week-workshop to get to know each and everybody. Niamey itself is h-u-g-e. Maybe because I´m coming from little Fada, but for me this place really seemed big! Buildings with more than three or four floors. Highways. Tunnels. Bridges. Paved Roads. Wide Squares and Shopping Centers. I got my visa from...
