Not far from the Muslim Cemetery is the Grand Mosque of Niamey located. It is open for visitors all days apart from Fridays. I think no need to say that decent clothes is recommended. Nevertheless, I was surprised that we haven’t had to cover our hair! It is the first mosque that I´ve visited, where no headscarf was needed! There is always somebody around who is ready to be your “guide”. I highly recommend to fix all prices before the tour! There is one box for general contribution for the mosque and then at the end of the tour there is a tip for the guide. The mosque has been built in 1977 (5 years construction time). Donated and financed by the former Libyan president Gaddafi, built by Moroccans and maintained by the Niger government. Men and women have separated praying halls, each of them fits 5000 people!
