The second edition of the „Culture-Festival“ brought us to Pô. This tiny city is located close to the Ghana-Border and a four-hour drive from the capital away. The car packed with our friends, some good vibes, an absolutely hilarious driver, we hit the road. After a bumpy ride we finally reached and stopped first of all in a tiny restaurant along the highway, which is apparently the best one in town – it was crowded and we barely got a seat! We checked out the festival site, where people...

In the South-West of Burkina Faso we went on an elephant-safari. Over 600 elephants live in Nazinga-Forest and we met a few of them. First, we went on a safari on our own, discovering lakes and small dirt-roads into the wild. Our second safari with a guide was very eye-opening, as he spotted many more animals: Eagle owl, antelope, monkeys, crocodiles and warthogs. We slept inside the park and even at night, we could identify lots of animals by their voices. An experience that you should not...

Burkina Faso likes national holidays and that´s also reason why the country celebrates its independence two times a year. The 5th August and today, the 11th December. In fact, on the 5th August 1960 Burkina Faso got its name and became independent. But two years before, the 5th December 1958, at that time Upper Volta became an autonomous region within the french territory: The proclamation of the Republic. This day is highly celebrated all over the country and the government pays an expensive...

Our partner organization has successfully organized our last activity (this is how we call training and other events). In January many herdsmen will again start their journey with their cattle in order to find water and pasture land. The herdsmen will cross time zones and borders in order to survive the dry/hot season. This phenomenon is called “Transhumance”. Many countries are involved, such as Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Ghana, Togo and even outside West Africa this type of...

A vendor sells up to 40 chickens per day at the big market in downtown Ouagadougou. One chicken costs around 2000F (3 Euro), which you can order at the restaurant, freshly grilled, with sauce and onions for 3000F (4,50 Euro). Chicken-meat is one of the most famous dishes in Burkina Faso. It is often referred to as "poulet bicyclette", bicycle-chicken. And why? Because local sellers transport up to 50 chicken at the same time on their bike. The animals are tied by their feet and then hanged onto...

After only two weeks we have our first breakdown on the road. Yey! We were on the road back to Fada from a weekend-trip, when suddenly the car´s engine stopped. In Burkina Faso, there is no emergency-number or so to call for help -– you need friends. Luckily, Tobias knew a mechanic in Fada and he came to tow our car. After three days in the garage, the mechanic solved the problem. Apparently, the fuel pump broke and this is because we filled the bottled-fuel into the car a week ago. So, we...

Somehow I came across a photograph of a wonderful waterfall that is supposed to be around Diapaga, a little town in the East of Burkina. It was impossible to find more information about this waterfall, for instance how to get there or where to stay. Nobody had heard about it, the telephone numbers and email-addresses that I found online didn't work anymore. Nevertheless, Tobias and I decided to take the risk and to explore the Diapaga-area ourselves, not knowing whether we would find the...

At the moment available: Cucumber, Tomatoes, Onions, sweet pepper, courgette, mangos, papayas, carrots, aubergine, avocado, bananas and cabbage. After rain fall it is a bit muddy though and requires special shoes ;)
